Valley Preferred Cycling Center Internship Program:
About VPCC: Valley Preferred Cycling Center (VPCC, formerly Lehigh Valley Velodrome) is the most prestigious professional cycling track in North America. Located in Trexlertown, Pa. (8 mi. west of Allentown) VPCC has hosted a full spectrum of world-class events throughout its history, including numerous national championships, world cups, world championships, and the 1996 Olympic Trials. From April through September, it hosts professional cycling events, amateur events, youth bicycle racing leagues, developmental cycling courses for young and old, and swap meets.

Marketing/Communications Assistant (Full-Time Internship) – SUMMER POSITIONS ARE FILLED, ACCEPTING FALL APPLICANTS
Course Description: Valley Preferred Cycling Center’s Internship Program is designed for college students to explore a career in the sport industry while getting hands-on experience working at the most celebrated velodrome in modern American cycling history. The VPCC Internship Program will expose students to numerous office and race day roles and will allow students to learn from and work alongside VPCC Front Office staff members.
Timeline: The program will begin in August and end in December
Hours: Intern will work full-time hours. In August race days (Tuesdays and Fridays), intern must assist with all race events. Interns will be dismissed shortly after the race ends when all responsibilities are completed.
College Credit/Compensation: $1,000 Stipend – College credit may be earned
Experience Includes:
- Assist Marketing department in organizing race day entertainment, promotional contests, PA announcements, booking national anthem singers
- Assist in producing press releases, web site content, and marketing/promotional materials
- Fulfillment of marketing partner agreements and media buys
- Develop and maintain all contact lists including season ticket holders, bicycling organizations, patrons, etc.
- Actively pursue sales of both group and season ticket sales programs
- Administration of the World Series of Bicycling (WSB) and amateur racing series
- Assist with day to day phone and clerical responsibilities
- Supervisory role with race day staff including training, scheduling, and evaluating staff members
- Assist with the fulfillment of World Series of Bicycling and amateur racing series administration
- Administrate facility and equipment maintenance, repair, etc.
- Develop, implement, review risk management policy and procedure
- Coordination of operations with national and international governing sports bodies
Course Objectives: Students participating in the Internship Program will be exposed to a professional working experience and will gain valuable information in the following categories:
- Hands-on sales experience - The Importance of event logistics and timing
- Executing marketing promotions - Providing customer Service & problem solving
-Working as a team to reach a goal -Networking with professional staff

Part-Time Internship: – SUMMER POSITIONS ARE FILLED, ACCEPTING FALL APPLICANTS
Course Description: This internship also allows students to explore a career in the sport industry while getting hands-on professional experience working at the most celebrated velodrome in modern American cycling history in a part-time capacity. Part-Time Interns will assist the front office staff and the Marketing Assistant(s) with daily functions of the marketing department.
Timeline: The program will begin late August and will run through the end of December. Interns are expected to be present for all events they are scheduled for.
Hours: Part-Time interns will work a minimum of 25 hours. Normal working hours will be scheduled based upon the needs of VPCC, and the availability of the intern. On race days in AUgust (Tuesdays and Fridays), interns must assist with all race events. Interns will be dismissed shortly after the race ends when all responsibilities are completed.
College Credit/Compensation: Unpaid– College credit may be earned
Experience Includes:

- Assist in producing program content, web site content, and marketing/promotional materials

Race Day Internship: *SUMMER INTERNSHIPS STILL AVAILABLE
Course Description: Valley Preferred Cycling Center offers Race Day Internships for those students looking to gain experience in the sport industry. Like our full-time internship positions, the Race Day Internship will allow interns to work along side of VPCC Front Office Staff while completing important race day responsibilities.
Timeline: The program will include all World Series of Bicylcing events held on Friday nights throughout the summer. The race series begins in June and will run through August. Although interns will not be scheduled for 100% of the Friday night events, interns are expected to be present for all events they are scheduled for.
Hours: Race Day Interns will arrive at 4:30 PM. Interns will be dismissed shortly after the race ends when all responsibilities are completed.
College Credit/Compensation: Unpaid – College credit may be earned
Experience Includes:
- Assist Box Office Staff with ticket related projects throughout the night
- Collect tickets from spectators as they enter the facility while welcoming each one to VPCC
- Lead the parking crew, organizing the traffic flow of incoming spectators
- Head the security department, staffing security at appropraite areas throughout the facility
- Assist promotions crew executing nightly promotions
- Assist setting up Plaza area with sponsor displays and nightly entertainment
- Support group hospitality areas with great customer service
