Valley Preferred Cycling Center (VPCC, formerly Lehigh Valley Velodrome) is the most prestigious professional cycling track in North America. Located in Trexlertown, PA (8 mi. west of Allentown) the outdoor sports facility has hosted a full spectrum of world-class events throughout its history, including numerous national championships, world cups, world championships, and the 1996 Olympic Trials. From April through September, it hosts professional cycling events, amateur events, youth bicycle racing leagues, developmental cycling courses for young and old, and Swap Meets. Interns at VPCC are involved in sports, event and facility management, marketing & communications, and various other aspects of business. Applicants must have strong writing and communication skills, be highly organized, have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, work well under pressure, as part of a team, or independently. Juniors or seniors with business-related, sports management or sports science/exercise physiology areas of study are especially encouraged to apply.

General Information:

Hours:                       Minimum 25 hrs per week (will work within academic requirements)

Flexible schedule

Interns must assist with all Professional Racing Series events, and some Super Tuesday Program, and Masters & Rookies events.

Period:                      Fall, spring or summer (Mid- May through August) terms

Salary:                      NA (unpaid)

Business Management Internship

Duties/Responsibilities: Interns assist in all aspects of VPCC facility operation & promotion, including, but not limited to:

  • Develop and maintain all contact lists for VPCC groups, including season ticket holders, bicycling organizations, patrons, etc.;
  • Identify, organize & catalog a large inventory of videotapes, mailing lists, files, etc.;
  • Assist with the fulfillment of World Series of Cycling (WSC) and amateur racing series administration;
    • Produce & place all series inserts
    • Catalog, stock, and distribute WSC related materials
    • Maintain event race results
    • Update website
  • Perform strategic analysis of attendance trends, profitability, program success, etc.;
  • Assist the Business Manager with payroll;
  • Assist with day to day phone and clerical responsibilities, and;
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Sport Management Internship

Duties/Responsibilities: Interns assist in all aspects of VPCC facility operation & promotion, including, but not limited to:

  • Management of physical operations
    • Administrate facility and equipment maintenance, repair, etc.
    • Develop, implement, review risk management policy and procedure
    • Train, coordinate/schedule, and evaluate program and event staff
      • Ticketing
      • Security
      • Concessions
      • Medical
      • Coaching
    • Liaise with patrons, athletes, and employees
  • Administration of the World Series of Cycling (WSC) and amateur racing series;
    • Facility preparation
    • Event management
      • Event briefing/debriefing
    • Website update
  • Coordination of operations with national and international governing sports bodies, and;
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Sport Marketing & Communications Internship

Duties/Responsibilities: Interns assist in all aspects of VPCC facility operation & promotion, including, but not limited to:

  • Produce or maintain press releases, web site content, marketing materials, graphics, advertisements, photographs, promotional campaigns, bios, highlights;
  • Organize entertainment, promotional contests, PA announcements, amusements, announcements, national anthem singers;
  • Develop and maintain contact lists for media and sponsors;
  • Organize and categorize all marketing related materials;
  • Inform organizations and businesses of both group and season ticket sales programs.
  • Design World Series of Cycling program inserts;
  • Assist with day-to-day sponsorship fulfillment activities (retrieve and deliver tickets, artwork, etc.);
  • Assist the VPCC Staff in the conducting of evening events, and;
  • Other duties, as assigned.
